When the death of her father sends Mia into a tailspin, her stepfather, Doug reaches out and invites her to stay with him and her mother, Tasha for the summer. But when Tasha's own resentments towards Mia, drives her daughter into isolation Doug steps in to be the emotional support she needs. Struggling with his own issues with Tasha, Doug quickly finds himself more and more drawn to Mia.
